Valpolicella e Monte Baldo

To the back of the Veronese part of Lake Garda and towards the borders between the Veneto and Trentino – South Tyrol regions, a territory of apparent severity reveals a variety of exceptional landscapes, rich of an extraordinary and intact naturalistic heritage: it’s the part of the Veneto Prealps heading lake Garda. Just a few kilometers of distance from the lake shores, the highest peak of the Monte Baldo (2218 meters) dominates the basin of the lake below; here the evident contrasts of landscape which intersperses this area soon catches the eye of its visitor: the rapid change between environment and landscapes, and not only for the short space which separates the shoreline from the mountains, but also for the variety of sceneries within the mountain area, where torrents flow through deep canyons near vast green slopes and the plains are rich in Alpine vegetation. By leaving the lake behind and ascending towards the heights of the mountains the fast mutation of vegetation can be recognized. The hilly area at the beginning of the Prealps, known as the Valpolicella, requires an obligatory stop. Vine-growing is done here ever since Roman times and among the precious and world famous wines produced here, there is the Amarone, the Recioto and the Valpolicella, which should be tasted in one of the many renowned cellars of the territory.
