BRESCIA’S LAKE GARDA

BRESCIA’S LAKE GARDA with the splendid Valtenesi, Salò, Gardone Riviera and the Vittoriale degli Italiani, Limone del Garda and the lemon terraces.

Garda Bresciano

There is truly a vast selection of exquisite sites to be visited among the territories of Lake Garda’s western shore. First of all we would like to mention the fascinating landscape of the Valtenesi hills with terraces of olive trees and vines which gradually descend to the bottom of the lake. Further, the numerous castles of Padenghe, Moniga, Soiano and Polpenazze are cleverly placed on the top of these hills, a real paradise for trekking and bird watching activities. Renowned gastronomic tradition can be found everywhere, in fact delicious Dop nominated olive oils, the Groppello wines and the Chiaretto DOC originate from this area. By heading north along the western lake shores from Salò to Limone del Garda, the last town in the province of Brescia before entering the Trentino territories, the towns of Gardone Riviera, Toscolano Maderno, Gargnano, Tignale and Campione are distributed along the shore. It’s impossible to just pass by Salò without visiting its elegant historic center which testifies the long Venetian domination of the Serenissima or else leave out Gardone Riviera without having admired the famous Vittoriale degli italiani, the vast architectural complex of the Italian poet and adventurer Gabriele D’Annunzio who lived there between 1921 and 1938 and which includes an open theatre, a grand garden and a mausoleum. The other towns to follow are all delightful holiday localities which include inhabited centers along the shore side with porticos, a main piazza and elegant liberty style buildings.
